The 47 Pound Rooster

Well in an endless effort to keep our house neat and tiddy I recycled the bottle of wine from last night without first blogging about it. From the cork, of course I save the corks - might make one of those wine cork boards someday, I am able to recall the brand. HRM Rex Goliath California Cabernet Sauvignon. I don’t know the year. It was a nice wine, Elliott and I like Cab. We finished the entire bottle, which we weren’t even able to do with the wine the night before. However I do think it was easier to finish the bottle because we didn’t drink the hole bottle in one sitting. We enjoyed the first glass with our dinner and then Elliott remembered that he read of a board game he really wanted to play. Listening to the description I shouted out - Othello! And he shouted out - Yes my dear, why that is it! Shakespeare would be proud of our dinner conversations.

After dinner and first glass we ran to Target to purchase Othello and my work party gag gift that I am really excited about. Thankfully after Elliott made a mockery out of me at Gin Rummy I beat him at Othello although it was close 34 to 30.

So overall: the wine was good. Although today Elliott thinks he is coming down with a cold so our wine binge is on hold. It may be a few days before I can report on the next uncorking.

Tapena

Elliott suggested that we begin wine blogging. We have an excess of wine so we have decided to actively work at enjoying it. Last night after our drive back from Reno, after putting up our tree, hanging lights and ornaments - what I would call our symbolic anniversary for our engagement - we enjoyed a bottle of 2005 Tempranillo a product of Spain. Have you ever read the back of a wine bottle? The stories are fascinating; you are not drinking wine you are walking through a old street in Madrid enjoying the culture from guitarists to tapas.

For us the walk was very enjoyable. Tempranillo is a red wine unlike any I have had before. We drink Cabernet Sauvignon most often so we are fondly acquainted with the bite that gets you after each sip. Tepena’s wine never came through with the bite which was a pleasant surprise. It was perhaps the best wine I have had - at least that I can recall. We enjoyed the wine while playing cards, Gin Rummy - Elliott won 3 games to my 1 (we had to play 4 games so I could win at least 1). We played in the dim light and the sparkling colorful lights from our beautiful sub 6′ tree. Elliott set up a Pandora station to share Christmas music to complete the mood. The evening was fabulous and the wine - delicious.

Important Note: Elliott is my coauthor in this blog in that he has provided links throughout this blog (if they are not here yet they will be coming soon) - which makes him happy and adds value to those looking for additional information. Aren’t we a perfect pairing?!

5.6

We did feel the earthquake that occurred Oct 30. The quake was a magnitude 5.6 on the Calaveras fault, the epicenter was located approximately 15 miles south of us. That night we had dinner at PF Chang’s and I had a glass of wine. We then went to the mall to shop, so after my glass of wine when the earthquake hit and I watched the maniquins swaying in the second floor gap store, I just thought it was the coolest thing. Elliott was robbed of a full experience because he was in the dressing room, so his point of reference was limited. He did though come briskly walking out of the room to make sure his damsel was safe, that was one of the cutest things I have ever seen. I of course was already on my way back to the dressing room to find him, I just feel safer near him.
